It's Friday.
My hectic schedule with leading several smalls groups and prepping for speaking engagements have meant using my Friday mornings to catch up on my running. But I had to jump in…I missed it. 😉
Then I saw the topic: Wide.
What? Wide…what in the world am I going to do with this one?
I guess we'll see what five minutes of unedited writing will produce.
Ready…
Set…
GO!
"Mommy…I love you this much…"
Their little cubby arms would stretch as wide as their bodies would allow…
Stretch so far they just knew no one could ever love their Mommy more.
No more than "this much".
I almost let those moments slip from my mind. They grow up and all you remember are errands, camps, playing cab to kiddos that mumble "Thanks" before hopping out of the car.
But now I remember, cubby arms, cubby hands, and soft cubby fingers. I guess you can tell my babies were cubby.
That meant soft hugs and little hands that held my cheeks and stabled my face when my attention was needed.
No longer are those days of "Mommy I love you this much…"
No…
Not now my baby is no longer a baby. She is turning 12 and my oldest is turning 14. Where did the time go?
Man, I don't know.
For now I will treasue those days. When I'd say "How much do you love me?"
And I'd hear their competing echos of …
"Mommy I love you this this this this this this much…"
We'd laugh as their arms extended beyond the frames of their bodies…completing to show Mommy…
I love you THIS much.
Question: What is one of your fondest Mommy Moments?

Welcome back to Fridays in the midst of the craziness of the fall schedule. And oh what beautiful children!
Thank you. Yes, these are my little ones when they were little. LOL!
Hi! I am visiting from Five Minute Friday. Reading this brings back soft tears of remembering doing the same thing with my son when he was young. Sometimes now, even though he is 11, I’ll look at him randomly and just say “Hey, you remember how much I love you?” He will roll his eyes at times, but he smiles, just a little, and says “yea…I think I do”. And then I’ll say, “yea? come here, let me show you”, and I’ll stretch my arms out as wide as I can before wrapping him up in a bear hug. I’m hoping that since he gave me those wonderful memories as a small child, when he is an adult, he’ll remember me giving those wonderful memories back to him as he got older. ^_^ Loved reading this, loved it prompted me to remember something so precious.
aaahhhh….doesn’t time fly? I’m glad you had a trip down memory lane too. Have a great day.
As a mom to two little guys, I can completely relate to this! The wonder of what that love does for me is overwhelming–it’s just about everything. On the days when they’re driving me nuts, I’ll think back on those “wide” moments. Thank you for the reminder!! 🙂
How true! It’s special. Hold those memories close to your heart. 🙂
Such a precious post.
Thank you.
I have to say that one of my fondest memories is of my girls as babies: just 2 and newborn, and we would climb into my bed, cuddle up and slip off to the land of Nod… Their precious angelic faces dusted with a smidgen of blond eyelashes would melt my heart every time. It was the only time my oldest (now 16) would let me cuddle her. She was constantly on the move even then.
As they have grown, there have been other memories, but none so sweet as watching them become soft and pliable as their little bodies conformed to the bed and sleep took a hold. The baby powder smell mixed with milk and sandbox to create the sweetest perfume I have ever smelled. Ode de’ Mommy.
Thanks for making me think of that again. Raising teens is sometimes a real challenge. Sometimes looking back on those precious moments reminds you why you had them in the first place….lol. I needed this!
You’re sending me down memory lane again. :o)
